It was free time in the lab. In a room with huge glass windows, the Crusnik children could play while easily being supervised. There wasn't much freedom here, but at least play time was better than being strapped down to a lab table or getting pricked over and over with needles. The two boys were seperated from the girls, but it didn't worry Abel too much. The scientists had promised they would all play together in the future.
Crusnik 002 stared morosely at his pile of Legos, not sure what to do with them. His guardian, Dr. Adrian, had promised the boys he'd bring in something neat, and this was probably would he meant. The seven year old looked up at Dr. Adrian. "Uhm, Dr. Adrian? What do you do with these?" The man smiled, and stooped down until he was level with him.
"You build things with them," the good doctor replied. "See the knubs on top and the holes on the bottom? That's how you use them. Give it a try, Abel. Be creative!" Abel nodded, and thought about what he wanted to build. But he didn't want to do it by himself. Turning in Crusnik 003's direction, Abel smiled. "Seth, come build Legos with me!"

Seth nodded, not saying anything. When he neared Abel, he turned, to glare at Dr. Adrian. His eyes were filled with hurt, saying unspoken words, If you care for us then take us away from here, fancy toys don't do anything. He picked up a block, holding it to eye level, and cocked his head to the side in confusion.

Abel scooched over to Seth, taking the Lego block out of his hands. "Look," he said, grabbing another from the pile. He positioned the other one on top of the block he took from Seth, and pushed it down. The one being pushed down made a snapping noise and seemingly "stuck" to the second block. "See?"
//OOC: Btw, Adrian is probably the only good scientist there. He does what he can for them but is limited in what he can do because he is a subordinate and is often forced to do things that he thinks is wrong. Its understandable why Seth might hate him, though.//

(lol okie dokie. That's good to know that there's at least one person on their side) Seth's mouth dropped open in awe. "Wow," he said, clapping. His golden eyes were as wide as saucers. He took a block from the pile and stacked it on top of another, creating a shaky tower.

"Lets see who can build the tallest tower!" Abel challenged. He grabbed a few more Legos from the pile. Adrian grinned, glad the boys were having fun. An assistant tapped on the glass and he stepped out of the room for a moment. "Dr. Adrian," the assistant began, "Mr. Gordon needs to run more endurance tests."

Seth smiled. You're on, he spoke into Abel's mind. He continued to build his tower, adding a few blocks to the base to make it more sturdy. He froze when he heard the assistant's thoughts. Suddenly the blocks didn't seem so fun anymore.

Abel noticed Seth's look and he stopped building his tower to listen in on the conversation. Dr. Adrian frowned. "Tell him not right now," he replied. "The boys are playing right now and I think its best if they go without testing of any sort for another day."

Seth rolled his eyes, returning to his block tower. He could hear the assistant's thoughts pounding in his brain. He's not going to just leave, Seth told Abel, he's under strict orders to test on us.

I know, Abel replied, frowning as he resumed working on his Lego tower. Maybe Dr. Adrian can persuade him not to, like last time. Outside the room, both men were arguing over protocol vs. opinion.

I doubt it, Seth said, shaking his head, the orders come from the head honcho. Either he agrees or gets fired. He looked at the Lego block that he had dropped, abandoned.

Abel dropped his head, staring ruefully at his incomplete tower. It was hopeless to hope, but there had always been an inkling of it. Dr. Adrian was not a bad man, it was the other people. His blue eyes began to fill with tears as Adrian stepped back into the room, looking upset and sad at the same time. "Will this test hurt?" Abel asked quietly.
Dr. Adrian avoided his teary-eyed gaze. "I'm so sorry," he replied, himself on the verge of tears. There was nothing humane about these tests, and he hated seeing the children in pain. The government insisted on treating them like animals. But being what they were was no excuse for this. It was true if he were fired for refusing, but he couldn't risk getting fired and never know what would become of the kids.

"Isn't that why they injected us with vampire cells?" Seth asked Dr. Adrian, once again reading his thoughts, "So that they don't have to treat us like humans anymore?"

"I suppose there's truth along those lines, Seth," Dr. Adrian replied grimly. "The government is so corrupt, as well as these other scientists. In actuality they don't really care about any of you. All they care about is data, and statistics, and furthering their careers." He clenched his fists as he continued, "This is not science."
Abel got up and walked over to him, hugging one of his legs. "But you do..right?" he asked. Dr. Adrian nodded. "Yes. I care about all of you. One day, I swear to God, I will find a way to get you all out of here."

Seth nodded, looking at the Legos. That would be nice, he said in Abel's and Dr. Adrian's minds. He wondered what the outside world looked like and whether is was a constant, never changing.

Adrian nodded, hearing Seth's thought. Just then, the assistant returned, tapping on the glass again. "Dr. Adrian! Mr. Gordon insists that you bring them immediately." Abel hugged Dr. Adrian's leg a little tighter, and he patted his back, sighing. "Will you give me a goddamn minute?" he snapped, making the assistant scurry off.
After the assistant left, Dr. Adrian stood up straight, putting a hand over his face. "I have to take you to them.."
