O NLY SHOOTING STARS » Shiloh Lyle absently twirled his spoon in his bowl of soup to create a slightly-less-than-boring whirlpool in the golden chicken broth. The noodles went along for the ride, spinning around in the vortex. All around him students were laughing and eating, enjoying the lunch hour. He certainly didn't fit in, dressed in his navy dress shirt, black dress pants, and black blazer to tie it all together. He should have been eating with his colleagues, but it was far too tempting to join his students. They made better company.
Much to his dismay Silas was nowhere in sight (on purpose, but he didn't want to believe that) and neither was Evie, at least not yet. He wasn't going to give up on either of them, though. They might still show up here. Until then Shiloh'd wait patiently, playing with his soup. There was nothing better to do- it was Saturday, which meant he didn't have any classes to teach today. And the majority of the students here seemed to realize he was shy, which could lead to awkward conversations if they approached him. So, alone he sat.

Rina Hastings walked through the great hall, watching her students socialize. She enjoyed seeing her students going through their daily schedule normally and happily. She then noticed an abnormally tall student, who looked grown up and slightly awkward. She then noticed his name tag, and realized that he must be the new teacher. She approached him to greet him and see if he was settled in well. "Hello there, I'm Rina Hastings, the headmistress of Castle. You must be the new teacher." She gave him a warm smile and extended her right arm. He was quite handsome, more so than the other, older, male teachers. "How are you settling in here at Castle?"

O NLY SHOOTING STARS » Shiloh glanced up from his soup when he was addressed. When he recognized the face (he made it a priority to know who his boss was) he smiled warmly at her. Okay, maybe meeting here in the lunch room, among the students, wasn't professional. But it didn't seem that anyone was paying attention, so he didn't bother to point it out.
"Shiloh Lyle, "Shiloh confirmed in introduction. Normally he would have settled for Shiloh, but he figured she might only know him by his last name so he felt it was necessary. Besides, she offered hers. " Yes, quite well, thank you." " Would you care to join me?"Shiloh hastily added. It was her school, she could sit down if she wanted so even that felt like it was unnecessary to say. But he couldn't exactly say nothing. ✘shiloh [/blockquote] « BREAKS THE MOLD ![/blockquote]

The headmistress was baffled by his offer to join him. Most teachers made it a habit to avoid her, as did her own son, so this was a pleasant surprise. Her smile widened, "I'd love to." She sat next to him, not sure what to talk about. She wanted him to know that he didn't have to be so, formal, as long as he followed rules, but she didn't know how to go about it without losing his respect. She decided just to make small talk about his job. "So, what subjects are you teaching in particular? Do you have any favorites?"

O NLY SHOOTING STARS » "History, "Shiloh answered with a smile. " Particularly U.S. history." Oh, yes, because it made perfect sense for the Scottish man to be the U.S. history teacher. Listening to him talk, his accent was still as thick as his children's, but if you tried to go toe to toe with him about the country's history, you'd see why he got the job. He's got the memory for all kinds of facts, and he knows a lot more than the average person about each individual in history. Shiloh could turn Washington into a real hero without mentioning that he had wooden teeth or cut down apple trees, but by enticing in them a deep love of country that he, quite honestly, has reason to envy. " I'm sure you're busy enough without it, but are you a teacher?"Shiloh questioned curiously. He figured that being the headmistress was enough to worry about, so he wasn't expecting her to take on a teaching role, too. ✘shiloh [/blockquote] « BREAKS THE MOLD ![/blockquote]

"Ahhh, History. I think that's the most interesting subject" She said with a friendly note. She was always interested in History. She personally thought that the subject had the most to do with going through life. She then shook her head, "I'm not a teacher, but I'm considering taking up a teaching job here. I probably don't have what it takes though" she said sheepishly "I'm more of a disciplinary authorized personnel I guess. There is this one student named Haku though, but he's more of an apprentice of mine than a student. "

O NLY SHOOTING STARS » "Being a teacher isn't so hard. You could do it. "Shiloh assured her. He, personally, wasn't good with discipline. Just ask his kids. He demanded respect, but he never yelled, and he never punished. You either did respect him, or he tolerated you and somehow, that quiet disappointment was enough to make you think twice. " Haku. An apprentice to become the next headmaster?"Shiloh questioned. He wasn't forward by nature, but she brought it up. She used the word 'apprentice', so it obviously wasn't a secret. Or was it? Was she telling him because he was an employee? He honestly couldn't be sure. There was really only one way to find out. ✘shiloh [/blockquote] « BREAKS THE MOLD ![/blockquote]

Rina shook her head, "No, he just wants to observe my power. He's more of an assistant." Her eyes soften at she thought of Haku. "He really is just a lost boy, trying to find love in his life. He may be too interested in power.... I guess I'm trying to teach him how to balance out both." She truly cared about Haku, she pushed him to be his best. The boy had so much potential that hasn't even been discovered yet, but he was missing something. A boy with no family, was definitely missing something. She hoped that he would find that special something here at Castle.

O NLY SHOOTING STARS » "Mmm, hmm. "Shiloh nodded thoughtfully. Having an assistant made more sense. While he didn't know his boss' power, it had to be pretty outstanding, so Haku had the right idea. " With such a driven woman to guide him, I'm sure Haku'll come out of this time in his life okay."Shiloh offered encouragingly. She had to be driven to be the headmistress, even if it was passed on to her as inheritance of sorts. Even if it was thrust into her lap, she had to have some determination to build off of to gain the respect of students and the staff. ✘shiloh [/blockquote] « BREAKS THE MOLD ![/blockquote]

"Thank you" said the headmistress in a small voice. She hadn't heard a thank you for what seemed like forever. She was beginning to like Shiloh more and more, even though there was the possibility of him kissing up to his boss. She wanted to know him better. "So, I was reading your file, as headmistress of the school, and I came across something quite interesting." She turned to face him, regaining her authoritative figure. "It's your power" she said in a more casual tone "Time manipulation? It sounds really interesting, how does it really work?" She didn't want to come on as nosy, but her curiosity was getting to her.

O NLY SHOOTING STARS » Shiloh obviously didn't know what was on her mind, but to his credit, he wasn't just kissing up to her. He was genuinely sincere because, well, building a person up was really more sensible than tearing someone down.
His file? He'd be lying if he said he wasn't interested in that. Just like when he'd been a student with a transcript, his employee file held great allure. Even if it said nothing he didn't know, he would have liked to see it.
"Yes. Time manipulation, that's right. "Shiloh nodded in agreement. It was definitely an interesting power, so it didn't surprise him that she was interested. It helped him with teaching. " I'm not a time traveler, but I can sort of 'reverse' time. It's not very reliable. I've used it a few times in my life, particularly in my teenage years, to keep myself from making simple mistakes, like tipping my mother's prized vase, or saying the wrong thing to a friend. But it's hardly worth it to me." Shiloh explained, his tone as casual as hers. " My power is mostly good for stopping time or slowing it down. I'm very proficient at stopping it, and somewhat capable of slowing it down for a time." An hour was the longest he'd continuously slowed time. It made him seem faster. And it gave him the chance to enjoy times in his life, like times when he watched his kids playing. The world slowed for all of them, but for him, he saw it in real time. Now speeding time up was not something he bothered with. Time was precious, why would he ever want to speed it up? As strange as it sounded, he'd never actually tried it. ✘shiloh [/blockquote] « BREAKS THE MOLD ![/blockquote]

She was amazed by his power, jealous even. "Wow....I haven't met anyone with that power, and I've seen some unique powers..." She thought about music abilities, shadow manipulation, and even dragon transformations. "I wish I had that power....." she said wistfully. There were so many mistakes she have made, and would give anything to undo. For one, she wanted to go back to see what and when she went wrong with her son. what had caused him to come to hate his own mother."Well, Mr. Lyle, Your presence here at Castle is greatly appreciated." She was genuine. She was extremely glad that he, and his powers, were here. They made a great addition to the school, and his kids too. Now knowing his gifts, she felt compelled to tell him her own powers. "I have telekinesis, the ability to move things with my mind. I've trained my powers to be able to manipulate almost any objects, even people, but only their actions of course. I can even manipulate fire for light." she shook her head disapprovingly, "I'm afraid it's made me quite lazy"

O NLY SHOOTING STARS » "Hmm,"Shiloh murmured in response to her saying she wished she had his power. Having the ability to manipulate time didn't make his life perfect. In fact, he felt like he had a harder time than most.
"It's an honor to be here."Shiloh replied. "But, please, you can call me Shiloh. You really don't have to refer to me as mister. " His students were free to call him by his first name, so why shouldn't she? They were both adults. But she was his boss. If she insisted on calling him Mr. Lyle, he'd let it be. " Fire?"Shiloh echoed. He hated fire, but he couldn't very well dislike or fear his boss for her ability to manipulate it. " That's pretty interesting. I take it students learn quickly not to try anything with you." If only he believed his son, Silas, would be smart enough to realize that an ability like that was not something to challenge. He had a feeling that he'd be approached more than once about at least Sly, if not both of his boys. ✘shiloh [/blockquote] « BREAKS THE MOLD ![/blockquote]

Shiloh, it was a nice name, she thought. "Well then, Shiloh, feel free to call me Rina." She smiled at him. He was probably the friendliest teacher she had ever met. It was nice to have someone more as a friend, instead of just another coworker.
She shook her head, she didn't like to be feared by her students, only respected. "I only use fire as a light source, to save energy. This school just uses so much of it." she informed him. "I refrain using my powers to, well, scare my students. All i really need, is their respect. I would only use my power to control a student went completely necessary, like to put them out of danger. " Yes, the students' safety was definitely her top priority. These magnificent students had so much to offer, so much talent and potential, she thought of them as her own children. Frankly, the more she sees of them, the more she grows fond of them. So the rebels, which she sees in her office quite often, may as well be her favorite. Sometimes it was hard to remove the students from danger, especially when their own powers were harmful. At heart, she knew that all of the students mean well, and are smart enough to control their powers. That is really what this school is for, for students with remarkable gifts to meet others like themselves and to harness their powers.

O NLY SHOOTING STARS » "It's a pleasure to meet you, Rina."Shiloh smiled in return. When she went on to say she didn't use the fire in a negative way, he bit his lip to avoid offering a correction to his statement. He just didn't like fire- he hadn't meant that fire would control them. The way she could control them, he assumed, was that she could control their actions. Pointing this out was foolish. She was his boss, and what would it really change?
"Of course."Shiloh affirmed in understanding. "That makes perfect sense." That really was a sensible approach if ever there was one. The older he got, the less he used his own power to get what he wanted. If they didn't want to listen, he had better things to do than argue with teenagers.✘shiloh « BREAKS THE MOLD ![/blockquote]
