it's all about me.
LIKES. Being with Fivel and Evan. Going to the mall. being rich, being right. He likes it a lot when things are exciting. To an extent he loves fights, when he's the one fighting, and he's good at martial arts (mainly Jun Fan). He goes to the gym sometimes and likes weight lifting but more often than not he sleeps in and forgets to go. He likes music, but mostly sticks with obscure rock bands and alternative. He doesn't like really loud scream-o music, he prefers more calm stuff. Modest mouse, Awol Nation, stuff like that. He's terrible with instruments, really awful, but he likes messing around on the piano and making up songs. He thinks it's a fun instrument to play with but gets frustrated by it easily. He reads a lot, Kao really likes sci-fi and fantasy books but he never reads anything about vampires. He feels like he's being weird when he reads stuff like that so he's never read Twilight and hasn't seen the movies. I think he'd like to some day but he won't go without an excuse. He reads super hero comics a lot, he has a big stack of them under his bed. Most of them are old because he hasn't bought any for a while. The ones he has are from when he was a kid and it makes him happy to reread them. As far as food goes Kao can cook really well even though he doesn't cook very much. He's picky with food and only has four or five restaurants that he likes to eat at. Most of them are expensive. So when he gets older he'll probably cook for himself a lot to avoid having to eat something he doesn't like. He likes spicy food. When he cooks he likes listening to music and at the same time he will have the TV on to some random movie. He really loves the Avengers movies. His favorite super hero is either Flash or Hawkgirl. He's one of those people who grew up around lots of people who smoked so he likes the smell a lot. He doesn't actually smoke but I think he wants to, he probably won't, but if he did he would be the kind of person who kept it really well under control. (lots of people in his family had lung cancer so he's careful about that kind of stuff.) He's a pretty good student, he likes to sit and listen in classes because he thinks most of it's interesting.
DISLIKES. Being away from Evan, his twin, and recently being away from Fivel. Being bored. People who are excessively violent, hurting people in general, when people he likes mistake him for Evan (though he doesn't mind it when strangers mess up). When the people he cares about are in trouble. When anyone hurts Evan (or Fivel). He really hates country music for absolutely no reason. He hates tomatoes, he doesn't even like ketchup unless it's on a hamburger with spicy mustard. He doesn't like dressing formally even though he grew up going to a lot of formal events. He still doesn't get along with most people to well, and when he talks to them it's mostly superficial. He really doesn't like most people but won't say it to their faces. He really hates not understanding things. Most of the time he's disinterested with everything, especially people, but when he comes across something that makes him curious it bothers him if he can't understand things. He doesn't like being forced to do anything because he gets bored easily and then sulks. He hates feeling guilty, too. He hasn't done a lot of bad things yet but when he does something wrong he always feels horrible and doesn't like feeling like that at all. So he goes to pretty great lengths to avoid that, which is probably why he's so polite to people he doesn't like.
STRENGTHS. He's normally pretty easygoing, he is determined when he wants to be and sometimes it seems like all he lives for is protecting Evan. Subconsciously he groups Fivel in with Evan so he thinks he needs to protect her too. Along with that he's really good at martial arts. Even though he likes getting in fights sometimes he doesn't go out of his way to beat people up. That's mostly because he doesn't care about them or doesn't think they're worth wasting his time over, but he's not malicious or anything. His gift is pretty strong, he uses it in a lot of different ways because it's so broad. Subconsciously he's afraid that someone will think up a way to get around his gift so he spends a lot of time thinking about different situations and how to get out of them. When he's away from Evan, he goes through a bit of a personality shift and is a lot nicer. He relaxes a lot and kind of forgets that he's supposed to act similarly to his brother. He's smart, decent at school when he wants to be, and one of those people who would do almost anything for his friends. He actually has ulterior motives behind that, but he's not really a devious person. He depends a lot on his friends and he's the kind of person who thinks that if he does enough for them they'll like him more in return. Maybe that's more of a weakness...
WEAKNESSES. Kao tends to give Evan whatever he wants, he takes most of his cues from his twin and either agrees or pretends to agree with whatever he says. When he's with Evan he acts a lot meaner and says stupid and tactless things. He also lacks a lot of common sense and can be really naive sometimes. He sees the world in black and white and also makes snap decisions about people. He's a really judgmental person. Kao's lazy and self-serving. He always had a ton of money and his parents let him do whatever he wanted as long as it didn't ruin the families reputation so he's used to not having to consult anyone. He's very possessive and gets jealous easily. That's mainly because he's used to always having Evan's undivided attention. However, he normally says less than half of what he thinks so most people don't have any idea. He doesn't normally come across as anything bad because his parents knocked it into him that he had to put up a good facade, that's mostly why he's so polite. (That's only when he's alone) He gets bored very easily and that's usually when his meaner side comes out. He doesn't care about anyone (besides Fivel and Kao) and he subconsciously assumes that no one else cares either so it's easy for him to say careless things and hurt someone.
He is ridiculously dedicated to Evan and Fivel, but when he's around Fivel he tries really hard to always say the right things. He wants her to like him (not necessarily romantically, just in general) so he does his best to be a 'good person'. So pretty much half the time he's not saying any of what he's really thinking. That's not the case with Evan, because Kao mimics him. If he's separated from both of them he's not nearly s self-concious or lenient.
HABITS/QUIRKS. He really hates shirts that have small neck holes so he either buys v-necks or attacks the shirt with scissors. A very socially awkward person, though he hides it by being overly-polite. Doesn't go to sleep until around two in the morning. A bit of an insomniac and he has slight OCD. He was supposed to take meds for both but his mother was very anti-medicine so he never took the pills. Since he grew up like that he never takes anything, even painkillers. As a result he has a pretty high pain tolerance. Loves candles. He really likes the ones that smell like food. (His grandmom used to light a ton of candles and he liked visiting her. She died when he was four, but he still likes candles a lot) He and Evan rarely go anywhere without each other, they're usually in sync with each other. When he thinks he's alone he likes to sing along to the music he's listening to, even if it's a girl singing, though he doesn't try and make his voice go very high. He's not a terrible singer, but he's not amazing either.
FEARS. He has a constant fear of Evan (or Fivel) completely rejecting him. That's mainly because they're the only friends he's ever had. He's normally not a complicated person but he has moments where he worries a lot. He also worries about Evan and Fivel getting hurt. Other than that he does his best not to worry so he doesn't stress himself out. He's also scared of drowning and at random moments the monster under the bed. But that's only after he hasn't slept for a long time.
SECRETS. He doesn't have many because he tells nearly everything to Evan. His secrets are basically that he's never had a friend that's not Fivel or his brother. He also hides what he's thinking when he's not around Evan and especially around Fivel. He doesn't want her to know that he's not a 'good person'.
FULL PERSONALITY.
He really has a split personality. When he's with Evan, which is most of the time, he's generally very mean and both of them kind of tag-team people. He doesn't see most people as 'equal' to him and Evan, Fivel being the exception. He can be very lazy and spoiled. A lot of his life is based off of Evan. When they're together it seems a lot like Kao is in charge, if it's possible to tell, but he really takes most of his cues from Evan on what to do and how to act. He's really very unsure of himself because he has next to no friends and no one to keep him anchored except for his brother who is kind of the same way.
When he's away from Evan he kind of calms down and doesn't talk as much. He can be really overly-analytical and he acts a lot nicer. He's the kind of person who goes to great lengths to do the right thing, in his mind, and he's almost got a bit of a saving-people-thing. Between the two twins, Kao is the one who's more solid and does the protecting. This is more how he acts when Fivel is around because he really wants to impress her. He's a bit obsessive. When he's with both Fivel and Evan, though, he's not that sure about how to act but he would never let on to that because it's very normal for him to always be with Evan. He's just not quite sure how to fit Fivel in, even though he wants to.
His sense of humor is a bit warped, to tell the truth. His past was kind of harsh so that's the main reason for it, but his humor is mostly made up of schadenfreude (finding humor in other people's pain). He's a very realistic person, but he doesn't see the world as the happiest place even though he's a very easy-going person who doesn't seem to have much to him. In short, he's a very introspective person who has multiple personalities.
When it comes to people besides his close friends he's very mistrustful. He kind of likes having his closed off life, even though it's a bad thing, and he's not ready to go ahead and let everyone in. His way of dealing with this is to just be a bit cold and disinterested. He really doesn't like to do anything unless he finds it interesting because he's selfish. Kao's a passive aggressive person and he would never want to hurt anyone, if they're innocent, but he'd prefer to keep them a few miles away and in a spot where he can tease them a bit.

FULL HISTORY.(this is from THF V1, and I kept it just because I liked Kao's voice in this.)
My name is Kao(pronounced Kay-oh), but I'll be speaking for Evan (pronounced eh-van) too. Evan and I are twins, we're even identical. When we were kids our mother used to dress us in the same outfits and we got the same haircuts and stuff. It was crazy, no one could tell us apart, they still can't.
Our parents were cray rich. Our dad does something for the government, but we're not allowed to know what it is because it's a 'security risk'. When we were kids Evan was scared that our dad was an assassin, that's how pathetic it was. It was pretty ridiculous. Our mom didn't work, she spent a lot of her time painting and taking care of us when we were little. She still paints a lot, but she's gone most of the time playing tennis or going shopping with friends. She's the kind of person who drifts around talking about how pretty a bird feather she found was. She's sweet, but she's not the most insightful person.
Evan and I have always been best friends. It sounds cliché, since we're twins and all, but that's how it was. Neither of us was very extroverted, so we kept to ourselves. We moved around a lot when we were kids, that might be the reason. It doesn't matter much, I just like being with my brother more than other people. I don't trust them, they're unpredictable. Honestly, I've never been all that impressed with anyone, Evan being the exception.
Evan was the first to discover that he had a gift. One day he woke up and there it was. He could control two elements, air and water. It fits him, of course. Air and water are supposed to be very happy and free elements, and he's like that a lot. I guess he gets that from mom. He spent hours practicing, he could make little balls of water fly around our room and turn them into ice marbles, and he could levitate our pet dog five feet in the air. I was sick with jealousy, but it didn't look like I had a power. What a letdown. I didn't talk to him for days, I stopped staying inside the house and hid in the garden instead. We had a very big one, it was easy to get lost in. It was a few days before my power developed to. I could control earth and fire, which was cool. I could light candles and throw rocks at people without actually throwing the rock. I figured out that fire didn't burn me, and I could make plants grow.
It was Evans idea to show mom. He made a necklace for her out of ice, which was a nice thought, but kind of misguided. Mom was cool with keeping our powers a secret, as long as I gave her lilies whenever she wanted them and Evan made her ice necklaces that never melted. She thought they were beautiful and all she cared about was how unique and special we were. She actually said that straight to us over dinner one day. It was stupid to try, really. Dad came back and asked mom why we had a bunch of apple and cherry trees in the backyard when it was too cold to grow them, and why she had a necklace made of ice. Mom tried to tell him it was nothing, but she really can't lie to him, and Dad sent us here. He's a bit of a hypocrite, he made us go after asking Evan to make him a few more ice necklaces so he could sell them. And that seems to be it.
When I came here I floated along, I literally listened to the Modest Mouse song 'Float On' a bunch, until I woke up in Fathom. I didn't see it coming, I didn't get sick before that like everyone else. The first thing I noticed was that Evan wasn't with me. I've always seen it as my job to watch out for Evan. We're identical and Evan's just as strong as me but he takes everything personally. We'd always been together so not seeing him was a shock. I panicked and I still remember that day as kind of a blur. I met Fivel, too. Even though we're friends now I barely treated her like a person then. True to my past, whatever the hell that means, I didn't care because she wasn't Evan. We got back but I couldn't help notice that everything seemed to be a little bit darker, a little bit skewed. Fivel hangs out with us now, so it's the three of us instead of just Evan and me. Havens burned down and somehow I got them both out. How I did it, I have no idea. And now we're here at Castle.

Kao opens his eyes, blinks, and sits up. Sprawled on the slightly wet ground in the middle of a forest, the tall blond twin is completely alone. "Hey, Evan, what happened?" He asks his twin, not realizing that Evan isn't there. "Evan?" He asks again, starting to panic. 'I was in the dorm last night with Evan. I went to sleep in our bed. How am I here?' He thinks, trying to look for Evan. Scared to leave the area he woke up in, just in case, he kind of wanters around a ten-foot radius and checks behind trees. "Evan, come out!"He yells, almost sobbing. Suddenly he hears foot steps and Kao snaps his mouth shut. He grabs a stick and raises it above his head, waving it around menacingly.
