moment music, kinda
Kao leads Fivel outside of the ballroom and at once the air seems to get several degrees cooler and he doesn't feel half-strangled by the amount of people anymore. He walks through the hallway and out into the grassy courtyard that's nearly deserted except for the fountain that's glittering with the little lights that someone set in the bottom of it. The sun has just set but it's easy enough to see with all of the lights that come from Castle.
With his hands in his pockets, he walks over to the fountain and then turns around to talk to Fivel. This place is good enough for him, though he hadn't exactly planned to bring Fivel here. He actually hadn't really thought out this plan past 'get Fivel out of the ballroom'. It's a good plan, as far as plans go. "Sorry to take you away from the dance, but I wanted to be able to talk to you without having to yell over people." Kao smiles, hoping that she's okay with this. Personally, he doesn't really mind doing whatever she wants, but he's still not exactly sure what she wants.

Fivel wrinkled her nose. "Sorry? Thank god you pulled me out of there. I couldn't stand being in there." she replied with a laugh. "I feel like an idiot in a dress." She gestured from her shoulders down and rubbed her fingers over the glittering fabric of overlay. "Ugh." Dresses are so impracticle!

Kao laughs. "You hate dances? I've always kind of liked them, this kind of dance, I mean. It's the formal balls and business parties that you have to watch out for." He exaggerates a grimace so she'll know that he was joking. His parents had often made him and Evan go to all sorts of formal events that had all been less than pleasant experiences.
Kao hesitates for a moment, not sure how to phrase what he wants to say. Recently he's been panicking about everything he's said to this girl, rethinking and remembering every moment to make sure he hadn't said the wrong thing. It's like the indians fighting the american colonists, next to hopeless."You look beautiful in it, I love this dress." He mumbles, his eyes glinting. "I like you more, though, and that's why I got you a present. It's to make up for not having one before." He remembers how badly he had acted the day after Fivel had been brought back from the dungeons. He feels ashamed of that... now... but it's to late to change yesterday so he's planning to make up with it with a present.

Fivel laughed. "Well, I've never even been to a buisness party, so I guess I'm alright saying that I just hate dances." she replied. Kao probably didn't know what standpoint she was coming from, being so high-up in the social standings, what with his parents being so damn rich, and not to mention his family, which obviously gave him a good start for school and everything, something that Fivel never got the chance to. She had to ride scholarships up until the Havens to get into good schools. Her eager desire to learn was something that teachers loved.
As soon as he started to compliment her about the dress, she blushed, her face turning nearly the same color as the red brick that sat behind them. She rubbed the plastic of her cast as he talked of gifting her over again. "Ah, no! That's ok. Th-the three hundred dollars is enough. I mean.. if you want the money back, I can give it back to you.." Man, I'm stuttering all over the place like an idiot! I hope I don't blush again. That would make me want to kill myself. As she looked at him in the eyes, she had to desperately tell herself, Don'tblushdon'tdoitdon'tblush! in order not to. Her cheeks slowly faded back to their usual complextion, but you could tell from the way that she bit the inside of her lip that something was going on inside.

(it's so brilliant that Kao's 'dating' Amy Pond. -laugh-)
He shrugs. "What's three hundred? It's the least you deserve, so keep it." Honestly, all of his money is rotting in his pockets. There's nothing he wants to spend it on, these gifts being the exception. Kao pulls a small rectangular box out of his jacket pocket. He'd wrapped it in silver paper so she won't be able to read the label on it. He can't help but grin, he hopes she'll like something like this. Fivel doesn't seem to him to be the type of person who loves wearing jewelry, but he had figured that he couldn't go wrong with something as nice as the necklace. It is a delicate thing, a simple silver chain with a pendant made of glittering diamonds. He wonders if anyone has ever given her diamonds before, real ones.
"Here you go, but if it's not your kind of thing than I've got the recite." He smiled, actually feeling nervous, as he handed her the box. That is stupid, being nervous, since it's just a present.

Fivel widened her eyes at Kao's denial of a high amount of money. Three hundred..! She thought. You know I'm not talking about yen, right? "Well, th-thank you." she said. "I'm flattered." As he handed her the box, she blinked at it many times. It was so beautiful, just all wrapped up. Need she destroy the wrapping? But, as he waited eagerly for her to open it, she became too excited as well, and delicately opened it.
The reflection of the diamonds danced in her eyes, and she felt warm inside again. It was so beautiful, so stunning, that she was suprised that it was for her. No.. how could she deserve such a thing? How could she deserve him?
"Oh.." she said at last. "Kao, its lovely I.. I don't know what to say." But then it occured to her. "Oh, wait!" She dug around in the pockets of her dress. (Yes, pockets. Winry put them in for her when she complained about it.) And finally found the small bracelet she'd made when she had sat in her room hours before. It had a 'K' slung on a silver braid, its scratched rock covered in silver paint. "See, I was really bored and Brooke has this aquarium in our dorm, and I wasn't doing anything, so I figured that if I could use the rocks, I could make little pendants things because I was bored. And I have one too, so.. we can match." She lifted hers, which was a soft pink color. Winry painted hers.
Suddenly, the warm feeling came again and she gave him one of her half smiles. "Kao?" she said. "Can we just.. sit and talk? I love it when we talk."

Kao smiles, watching her expression as she opens the box. When she looks so happy it makes him want to hug her, though he guesses that now is not really the moment. "You like it? I'm glad, I wasn't sure what you'd like the most." So he had settled for jewelry.
His eyes widen when Fivel hands him the bracelet. It looked nice, though handmade, altogether very interesting. Entranced, he turns it over in his hands, looking closely at it. When his eyes catch the 'K' on it, he smiles. "Thank you, I like this present." He says softly, slipping it onto his wrist. Yeah, we do. Just like twins." The word falls from his tongue wrong, end he frowns, wondering why it feels so odd to say something like that. He shrugs and moves on. (ug, he's and idiot... haha)
"Sure, I'm fine with talking." Kao sits down on the wall surrounding the fountain and leans back a little. "What do you want to talk about?"

With a low swoop of a blush, she glanced away from Kao to compose herself, if only for a second. "I suppose.." she started, but didn't even manage to keep herself from glancing away again, the light from the dance inside casting shadows over her face, enhancing the angle of her jaw, producing an almost artifical glitter in her eyes which made the beryl green look like a sea of forests branching together in sort of a sheet of eneven but somehow alarmingly real color. Finally a thought which made her stomach churn but had been bothering her since she got back entered her mind which she just had to ask of him. It was something so unsaid, but so obviously eating at him that she was surprised that she hadn't said something before. "..its just that.." she started again. She still did not face him, intended to speak to him, but instead faced the world that was in front of her. "..I don't believe that we've actually gotten past Flock as we wanted. Someone's still... out there. Maybe not her, but I can feel it. Someone plans one of us harm.." She could barely contain the word 'Evan'. She knew that he entirely loathed her with a burning passion, and would do anything to ensure that Kao was away from her. But she knew that Evan didn't understand... right? She sighed. "Just.. I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. But I have this strong feeling that something bad's going to happen. And I don't want either of us to be caught off guard." Only then did she realize her long string of words which would usually be so much shorter. She blushed darker. "Sorry." she said. "If you haven't noticed, I talk alot when I'm nervous."

"No, it's fine." He shrugs. Fivel is right, it would be stupid to assume that everything is over and that no one would try to hurt them again. Flock is still alive, after all. "I can't argue with that, but I'm more than ready to defend myself. I've been practicing, and my gifts are only getting stronger." Kao laughs quietly, though not really because he is amused. "I won't be caught off guard, don't worry. I'll protect you."

Fivel Fivel half-smiled. "Hahah, I know." she said. She had one hundred percent, complete trust in Kao, and after the Flock situation, believed in everything that Kao even hinted on doing. Her green eyes glinted with content. Even sitting on this bench with him, just talking to him and looking him in the eye was enough for her, enough to quench her for the time being that they could possibly be away.Whether or not Fivel's emotions and strong tether to Kao were just as strong in return could be her immaculate, quiet downfall, and her eternally deadly weakness.
A sound from inside of the dance caught her attention, and her head turned to find the sound with her eyes. She blinked. "Hey," she said. "Something's goin' on in there.. I think we should go heck it out."

Kao's brows furrow for a moment, and he searches her face. "Okay, good." He pushes his hair out of his face, with Evan gone there's no one to cut it for him. He hopes that his twin will come back soon.
When Fivel mentions that something is going on in the building and he looks over his shoulder at the windows that are flashing different colors from the dance lights. Under the general sound of voices, he can hear something that doesn't sound quite right. "Yeah, if you want to go back we can." He gets back up and heads towards the school.
