Robin laughs. "You don't like the heat? Don't tell me you're a vampire." She jokes, realizing suddenly that the twilight joke isn't really funny when there's a big chance that you're talking to a real vampire. She wonders if he's one of the dangerous vampires from Havens that she heard about on the news but decides that that's just to unlikely. (heh. She's to smart for her own good. And I wanted her to say something ironic.)

For the second time since they started talking, Robin had surprised him once more. "Would you be frightened if I was?" Alucard ventured. He didn't want to scare her away, but he wasn't going to lie about what he was. That would be impossible; it'd reveal itself one way or another.

Robin bites her lip, thinking this one through. When she had come here she'd been afraid of everyone. Now... Well, she hadn't died yet. "Not really. No offense, but there are scarier things in this world. Does that mean that you are one?" Robin mentally sighs, wishing that she could have a bit more tact.

Scarier than the things I can do? Alucard thought. Than what I could become? Hardly likely, unless one was used to it. But he knew for a fact that most people had truly been terrified of that particular form the first go round. However, this was something he would not be showing Robin for quite a while.
Realizing he'd been silent for a couple of seconds, Alucard nodded solemnly. "Yes, it does. If my eyes haven't given it away," he replied, referencing the sunset-orange color of his irises, "Then my skin does. I don't blend in because I'm quite pale, while the majority of the rest of you have real nice tans. I must look like a ghost in comparison."
Alucard stopped walking when they came to a stop sign. He gave this information a moment or two to sink in, before pointing across the street to a hole-in-the-wall joint where through the glass windows, he could see people chilling in booths. Some had laptops. "That must be the place."

Robin walks silently besides Alucard for a moment, wondering if she'd offended him or something. "Oh, shoot, sorry. I didn't mean to insult you or anything." She blushes in embarrassment. "I just assumed that your eyes were separate from your gift. And I don't have the right to call anyone pale." She holds up her arm, which is only a shade or two darker than Alucards, for inspection. Having spent most of her childhood in a hospital room, she hadn't developed any resistance to sunburns so she always settled for haunting the insides of buildings or piling on the sunscreen. "Yeah, this is it." She leads the way to the coffee place and opens the door. The guy at the counter looks up with a resigned expression on his face but brightens a bit when he recognizes her. "Hey Jory! This is Alucard." Robin says happily. She waves for Alucard to follow her to the counter. "That's Jory. He doesn't know we're from Castle but his a good friend." She whispers to him, making sure Jory is still out of earshot.

"No offense taken," Alucard says lightheartedly. He looks at her arm when she raised it up, and nodded. Inside the coffee place, he follows Robin towards the counter, and glances at the person she greets as Jory, and listens intently as she whispers in his ear. "Ah, okay," Alucard replied, just as quietly. Once they were close enough, he raised a hand and waved smally. "Hello."

Jory flashes a quick smile in Alucards direction. "Hello. Can I get you anything?" He asks, already making a toffee nut white mocha frapaccino for Robin. "So, how have you been?"
"Not bad. I've got a paper on influential world leaders from before the 20th century that I could really use some help on though."
"That sounds fun!" Jory says, really meaning it. "Are you going to keep me up until 3AM with all your panicked text messages again? Or is this something you won't procrastinate on?" Robin laughs and dodges the question with a change of topic.
"Alucard, since you don't do music, have you ever played football? Jory and some college guys from around here have a lot of games and they're always short on players."
"Short on people who actually know how to play..." Jory grumbles. "But you're always welcome." He glances back at Robin, a bit confused as to why she's being nice to the strange guy. After a few minutes he shrugs and goes back to his job, accepting the unavoidable fact that Robin would ask someone robbing her house if they wanted to go to the mall.

"Just a caffe vanilla frappuccino for me," Alucard said. He listened quietly while Robin and Jory talked. By the familiar way they speak with each other, he figures they've known each other for a while. When the question of football came up, Alucard shook his head. "No..but I know how to play." Back at the Havens, he used to watch some of the other guys play every once and a while. With his gifts, he could be amazing at football, but Alucard never tried. He didn't think the sport really fit him.

Jory hands Alucard his coffee. "Shame. Come watch sometime if you want, Robin's really great..." Robin grimaces because the most she ever does during a football game is hide behind Jory and try not to get tackled. "We're gonna go sit down now, there's a line." She points out, dragging Alucard to sit at one of the tables. "Sorry about that, I haven't seen him in a while and he gets bored here easily." Robin unwraps the turkey sandwich she'd bought and starts to eat. She takes her time chewing, not sure what to talk about now.

"I understand," Alucard replied, sitting down on the opposite side of the booth. "I know what its like with friends." He takes a sip of his coffee to stall, also uncertain of what to talk about. Then he returns the cup back to its place on the table, and takes a brief glance at his bracelet. "I suppose I should tell you a little more about myself," Alucard says finally.

"Ooh, okay!" Robin puts her elbows on the table and rests her chin on the intersection of her wrists, careful to keep well away from the small triggers that release the invisible glass lances that are buried in the thick black leather bracelets she has on each wrist. She looks at him with bright blue eyes, kind of eager to hear what Alucard has to say about himself. "But you don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I don't mind."

Alucard shrugged, the faintest traces of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Just a few things for now," he says, and took another sip of coffee. "Well, you already know I'm a vampire, and that I've recently lost someone..very important to me. It was very hard to leave Nevada. I was born and raised there..and I've never moved before. This would be the first time. California is different, but..its nice I guess. I'll get used to it eventually."

"I'm sure you will. This is where people come for vacations after all." Robin says warmly. She wonders for a moment if she should say something else about that person he lost but decides against it. You've already told him everything you can. She thinks to herself sternly. "Do you want to hear about me? It's not the most interesting story, I guess. But I owe you a story."

"Sure," Alucard replies. Robin seemed like a nice person, and he always thought it was interesting to listen to other people describe their life, or just general things about themselves. At least, while Robin is talking, it'll give him ample time to think of some things about him that wasn't depressing.

"Okay." Robin says happily, thinking for a moment before she starts. "I was born in San Diego and I spent most of my life before Castle in the hospital because I didn't really have much of an immune system. My parents worked all these jobs to pay for the hospital bills and even got me ballet lessons and a teacher to come to the hospital and give me music lessons. After a little while I realized that all I was doing was being a burden so when I developed a gift I came here. Because it's free for people with gifts... And that's basically it." She finishes with a small smile. She'd made sure to gloss over how she still got sick a lot and that she hadn't actually lied about not having a gift. She'd developed a power using science so it wasn't anything more than a misleading statement. Robin wishes that she didn't have to lie to him when he's being so honest but if anyone found out about her not having a natural gift she'd get kicked out of Castle and then she'd be sent back to cost her parents more money. She tries to distract herself by staring at his hair so her expression won't give her away.
