Seth was sitting in the grassy clearing trying not to feel sorry for himself. He was pulling out tuffs of grass for lack of something to do. He felt lost and broken. He had lost all the family he had known, and the only home that he had ever had in his whole life. The Havens had burned down, taking everything from him, except the pendant the Abel had given him. It hung loosely from his black uniformed pants like a chain. Since his jacket usually covered it, it wasn't technically breaking the dress code. If you can't see it, it's fine.
He was sitting alone in the Moor because he didn't want to be near anyone. There were people everywhere else, people who wanted to talk, who wanted to hang out. People that couldn't understand the fact that he wanted to be by himself and mope for a bit.
He heard almost silent footsteps and the faint hum of a mind. "Who's there?" He called out, more polite to the person since he felt it was invading for him to dig through someone's mind.

Brooke took in a deep breath, taking in the scent of grass and dew. She loved the smell of plants, and plants all together. She was lost, again, but she luckily, she found herself in an enjoyable field. She twirled in the open space, the open air, and let out a giggle. Relaxed, she started to wander. She was, as usual, oblivious to her surroundings, for music always played in her head. She closed her eyes and let herself get lost in the soft, sweet tune of comfort. Suddenly, a voice interrupted. Her eyes shot open, and she found a guy sitting a few feet away. She was speechless, mezmerized by his looks...and a tune started to play in her head. It was a sad, mourning melody that broke her heart. "Oh...I'm sorry...I didn't meen to bother you..." she said, flustered and embarassed by her impolite staring. She started to retreat, but the tune played in her head once more, calling for her to return. She turned slowly, "Uhmm... Hi, my name is Brooke." she smiled, "What's your name?"

Something about this girl is different, Seth thought.
Most people's minds emit a kind of hum, even when Seth tries not to listen in. But Brooke's mind was emitting music. Soft, but lovely, it was barely noticeable. Seth smiled a bit despite himself. "It's okay... I'm Seth by the way." He glanced at the girl's face. Besides her beauty, the most striking feature was her eyes. They seemed to change color in the light, blue, green, turquoise. He couldn't help but stare into those eyes, anticipating the next color.

"Hi Seth. It's nice to meet you! .....Is....is everything ok?" Brooke questioned...worried. He had shining eyes, golden, like the sun. His eyes looked like he was hiding something, masking his true feelings, Brooke analyzed. "May I sit with you?"

Brooke's voice brought him out of his thoughts. He quickly turned away. "Sure," he said, scooting over to make room, "Everything is..." He trailed off. He didn't like sharing his secrets, especially to strangers. He thought it burdened the person he was telling them to. Before he could change his mind, he said, "not okay, in fact it's kind of horrible."

Brooke sat down right next to Seth. "Tell me everything." she said eagerly, "It will feel better once you let it out." Seth's melody was yearning to be let out, for it was trapped. "I know you just met me, but that makes it easier. I'm lending and ear to listen to your story, and I suspect it is a long one." She looked out into the distance. "Go ahead." she turned towards Seth, looking right at his golden, shimmering eyes. She turned away almost imediately though, and she put her head down on her knees, hiding her blushing face.

Seth looked at Brooke for a second before starting. He told her about his life in the labs, escaping, Abel abandoning him, Caterina's betrayal, the Havens, and the fire. When he finally stopped talking, he felt like half his burden was off his shoulders, and was now hanging on Brooke's. He felt happy and upset with himself. Ashamed, he looked down, avoiding Brooke's eyes.

Seth's journey broke her heart. Being raised with fortune, she had no idea that any of this even existed. She started to appreciate everything, her view on life changed slightly. His melody altered...into a shy sounding song. "See? You must feel a lot better." She shared another one of her smiles to him. She honestly was at a loss of words. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath and started to sing. This action apalled herself, for she didn't like to sing for people, but she felt that it was necessary this one time, for him. Her song was a warm encouraging song, yet a bittersweet and comforting tune. When she finished her song, she opened her eyes and spoke. "Thank you for sharing your tale with me. I did't exactly know how to respond to it though, I've never had such hardships...so I let the music speak for me." she looked towards Seth once more. "You must have incredible strength and courage. Those are things that I severely lack... Well Seth, with old endings, come new beginings."

Seth couldn't help the smile that spread across his face. "That was beautiful," he said, awed by her wonderful singing, "And thanks, you made me feel a lot better. How did you come to the Castle?"

Seth's smile caused Brooke to smile also. "Thankyou." she felt her face heating up. "Well, I'm not all that sure how i came to Castle... I'm new, but I believe it's because of my musical talents. I've been told I'm gifted." she continued to blush. "Music...is a wonderful thing, always playing in my head. It has the ability to calm and soothe a soul. That's my gift. I can manipulate music to manifest minds and feelings. I believe I can also alter the speed of growth with my voice...you see....I had a rose garden back at home I sang to...and they grew at an amazing speed." She found herself babbling and shook her head. "I'm not really sure about my 'powers', but enough about me. Tell me more about yourself...like...how old are you?"

"I'm sixteen," Seth said, "and I probably will be for the rest of my life. I blame it on the vampire cells." He said it as nonchalantly as he could, so Brooke wouldn't be too alarmed. He turned to look at her face, watching her expression.

Brooke's face was blank. She wasn't too surprise, his story was as alarming as it could get. Trying to lighten the mood, she said, "Oh. I'm only 14...lucky you... you won't grow old and wrinkly like me..." She smiled at him. She was trying to show him there was a brighter side for everything. She lied down in the fluffy, cloud like grass. "It's such a beautiful day..."

Seth shrugged. "But I'll watch my friends die. Which is worse than death itself." He ran a hand through his hair. "Hm.. 14? You seem older than that by the way you act." He looked up. "It is beautiful."

Frowning, Brooke apologized. "Life has been....unfair to you." she said softly, "If I could, I would share my fortune with you...but I don't really know how but to let you lean on me when life gets especially rough..." She sat up. Facing him, she sat criss-cross-apple-sauce. "Thanks....most people think I'm younger actually" she let out one of her childish giggles. "So Seth, Will you be my friend?" she smiled at him hopefully.

"Life has been unfair to both of us. But perhaps, not as cruel as it could be. All the bitterness, fades eventually." A voice comes softly on the wind, eerily familiar. Against the glare of the afternoon sun, the silhouette of a person gradually makes his way over to the pair, until the distinguishing features of spiky brown hair, blue eyes, and pale skin give Abel away. "Hello, Seth."
